My inspiration draws upon the iconic album artwork by Jamie Reid for Sex Pistol's “God Save the Queen”. “Redemption” and “Party Sluts” were the two main elements in the creation which consists of hand pulled silkscreened fabrics snitched like a ransom note and a DIY rosary.

This October, Singapore’s nightlife Mecca Zouk has tied up exclusively with Dr. Martens to present a unique collection of the latter’s iconic 1461 3-Eye shoe specially designed by 20 of the scene’s players, trailblazers, creatives & thinkers alike in celebration of Zouk’s 20 glorious years of music, dance and culture and Dr. Martens’ #FIRST 1461 3-Eye Shoe Customization in Singapore.

In this union of two world-class lifestyle brands brought together through their mutual love for style, opening minds and pushing boundaries, each personality was given a pair of limited edition Dr. Martens 1461 3-Eye shoe - with their signature stitching in green instead of the iconic yellow - on which they can express their feelings toward the internationally-renowned club, incorporating the Zouk identity on their blank canvases with artistic freedom & creative liberation, thereby adding a quaint and personal touch to each design.

In the film, the protagonist named (Benjamin) has an affair with an older married woman, Mrs Robinson. The name Mrs Robinson was insignificant in pop culture as in symbolizes having an affair with an older lady before the urban term we have now such as “Cougar” or “MILF”. This art piece reflects that by breaking down the name to “robbing a son” as the arts of sedction of an older lady is second to none.

A group exhibition by eight distinguished artists, including a special video art commission by critically acclaimed film director, Glen Goei.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, its arguable that complex ideologies can be represented through a single image. On the flip side, in Moving Still, Vue Privee challenges Eight Asian-based artists, Aiman, Mr.B, Brendan Fitzpatrick, ClogTwo, Glen Go...ei, Jolene Lai, Kim Xu, and Sheryo, to turn this notion on its head. The artists reinterpret part of a dialogue or quote from a cinematographic frame into their own works of art.

The source of inspiration varies, ranging from scenes in Napoleon Dynamite, a three part Indie film by Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai, to a video recording by the obscure oprea singer Klaus Nomi. The artworks created are not mere replications of original photographic stills, but rather, unique interpretations expressed through a variety of media such as oil on canvas, mixed media on watercolor paper, and digital illustration to name a few.

A tweed jacket, lobster claw heels, four little white stitches, a red gown…Iconography that has been etched into our psyche wittingly (and unwittingly) through the delirious world of fashion.

For this exhibition, illustrators draw inspiration from these objects of desire and their inventors, creating original artworks in the process. Using different mediums, participating artists include Mindflyer, Mr B, Fleecircus, Sokkuan, Cherie The Mrr, Eeshaun, AnnGee, SanSan, Noreen, Fei, Miel, Annie Tan, Twisstii and Mriz Sidah just to name a few. With varying backgrounds and styles, from political cartoons, to abstract surrealism, several take their first foray into fashion as subject matter.

With the inaugural Singapore Men’s Fashion Week just past and the upcoming Audi Fashion Festival this May, A Curious Teepee and OIC aim to convey another side of fashion, as seen through the eyes and hands of an artist.

All artworks are on display and available for sale till Sunday 22nd May
at A Curious Teepee, 12pm to 9pm daily.

"The idea here was to infuse my own interpretation of what is fashion to me. Being an avid junkie for stripes, I'm inclined to the colorful myriad of striped colors from Paul Smith. Drawing inspiration from vintage pin ups from the 60s and 70s the piece was executed by the juxtaposition of this 2 influences. Models of that era was fashioned with big beehive hair and prints was in. There's this a retro feel to the Paul Smith's line of prints and clothing that I felt enduring to re-interpreted."

Big thanks to the gang @ OIC and GAP for making this work. For me it was a good change to try something new other than illustrating so I conceptualize the display front. My theme was recycling so I had the idea of using old books...

OICsingapore is very proud to be part of this new series for 2011 and to work with the Gap’s Singapore team on this special iconic bag.

There are five new designs this year by illustrators – Anngee Neo, Fleecircus, Gwee Yin Fei, Mindflyer and Miun. Each illustrator was invited to reinterpret the original design of the bag while maintaining the “0% Plastic” tagline. In addition there is a special store window display designed by MrB aka Ben Qwek ( www.benqwek.com ) to compliment this new collection at the major outlets like Wisma and Vivocity.

This limited edition collection will be launched on Earth Day -22 April- in all Gap stores. Each bag is available at S$5 with purchase of any GAP merchandise.

This project is another effort by OICsingapore to partner with good brands and showcase/ promote the usage of interesting illustrators and illustration.

SYNÆSTHESIA is a serial experiment that crosses the boundaries between two genres of art: the written word and the image. A collaboration between 17 pairs of writers and artists, Synæsthesia is the product of a marriage between form and words that exist beyond the page.

Synæsthesia is recognised as a neurological condition in which sensory and cognitive pathways criss-cross, resulting in individuals that report experiences such as perceiving letters and numbers to be inherently coloured, or hearing sounds in response to visual motion. In art, these multi-sensory experiences are often celebrated as the ongoing discovery of the possibilities of perception.

Pantone My Art Exhibition at tcc The Gallery

Witness ten Singapore-based artists express themselves in monochrome. Using colours from the Pantone Matching System, these artists face the challenge of creating artworks predominantly in one colour tone which they selected at random. This proprietary colour matching system is traditionally used in a variety of design and printing industries, though in this context, will extend to a wide range of mediums, from painting to digital art.

The show promises a showcase of the graphic urban art of Ben Qwek (MR.B) and Antz, the visual artistry of Singapore’s enfant terrible Zxerokool, the retro-inspired graphics of Mojoko, meticulously detailed illustrations by Messy Msxi, multimedia installations by Malvina Tan, digital paintings by Jack Youngblood, and the painterly visions of Jamie Paul, Jeremy Sharma and Aiman Hakim. Brought to you by TCC – The Connoisseur Concerto, these ten artists will transform the Boat Quay caffè’s upstairs gallery space into a veritable cornucopia of colour.

Launching April 16th (thru to April 21st) @ BLOODGROUP+ Space (32 Aliwal Street, Singapore),The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Exhibition ~ a follow up to ▲ Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the cult science fiction comedy series created in 1978 has been adapted into a stage show, a novel, a computer game, a Hollywood film, a comic book and even a series of towels, making it a multi-media phenomenon. And next month, for the first time, 42 Singapore based artists will show their intergalactic visions in a series of artworks inspired by the famous novel.

The show, curated by Steve Lawler, brings together a wealth of local talent. From pixel pushers to product designers, all fans of the mind-bending world of Douglas Adams. Guests to the free exhibition can expect to see some bizarre and warped creations from this new wave of visual artists. Each piece will be for sale in exclusive limited runs.

Says curator Steve Lawler, “By using a famous cult book like this we hope to broaden the spectrum of design which a larger demographic can relate to.”

Synopsis:

This piece is Illustratres a childhood fantasy of mine. Improvements in gaming as progress by leaps and bounds. Virtual simulation has come to a point where we can no longer tell the difference between reality and virtual reality.

Gaming in the future has been recognized as a world wide sport like soccer. There will be worldwide telecast of the matches and gamers would be treated like pop stars and looking good is part of the job.

Hence, the battle scene in the metropolis. : )
